Stop the genocide, cut all ties!
Newsletter ‘In Movement’ 5 (2024)
Internationalist greetings! We have reached the fifth edition of 2024 of the In Movement Newsletter from the International Peoples’ Assembly (IPA). This month, we call on you to join us in fighting together for the end of the genocide of the Palestinian people and for governments and institutions to cut all ties with Israel. We also celebrate the struggles for the liberation of peoples, the defense of the environment, and international solidarity.
The IPA and the Progressive International call on organizations and peoples who are fighting for the end of genocide and the liberation of Palestine worldwide to mobilize on June 8th. Read our statement:
STOP THE GENOCIDE! CUT ALL TIES WITH ZIONISM!
June 8th, marks 8 months of US-Israeli genocide of the Palestinian people and the 54th anniversary of the occupation of Gaza. This week the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) committed another bloody massacre against the Palestinian refugees and shelled tents of civilians in Rafah in what they have already designated as a safe zone for the Palestinians. This crime resulted in the death and burning of an unknown number of civilians.
President Biden said that the invasion of Rafah was a red line. But the recent attack on Rafah demonstrates that Biden’s red line is nowhere to be seen. Instead of following through and stopping military aid to Israel, Biden has authorized billions more in weapons shipments to be used to kill and massacre Palestinians.
The international community increasingly condemns and rejects the genocide that Israel is carrying out on the Palestinian people, as evidenced by the call for ceasefire in the UN security council, the call for investigations and arrest of Israeli leaders for war crimes in the ICC, the call for a halt to the invasion of Rafah by the ICJ and the recognition of Palestinian statehood by various countries.
These actions are important but not enough to end the genocide. The people of the world will hold their governments accountable and demand they must cut political, diplomatic, economic and cultural ties with Zionism.
We demand an immediate ceasefire, an immediate end to the siege on Gaza, the freedom of all Palestinian prisoners, and an end to the occupation of Palestine. We demand that our governments reflect the will of the people in their actions.
Stop the genocide, cut all ties! Free Palestine!

Students Will Not Be Stopped! Palestine Will Be Free! | Since April, students from all over the world have been mobilizing in universities and schools to demand that their institutions cut all ties with Israel. The call to end the funding of genocide and Israeli apartheid by their universities is joined by their firm commitment to a free Palestine. Since April 19, when the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at Columbia became international news, students at various universities around the world have been organizing their own encampments in solidarity with Palestine. Many have been arrested, suspended, and evicted from student residences as a result of their participation in the mobilization. But nothing and no one will stop the students! The International Peoples’ Assembly stands in solidarity with the courageous students across the world who are intensifying their struggle in solidarity with the Palestinian people and against Israel’s genocide through a wave of university encampments. We invite your organization to also sign our statement.
Workers Of The World Unite Against Genocide In Palestine | On the occasion of May 1, International Workers’ Day, various unions, political parties, and popular movements, part of and allied with the IPA, issued a statement in solidarity with Palestine. The text states: “Beyond the call for a ceasefire we must say no to the transportation of arms and arms caches to Israel. Workers in all industries – especially workers in the transport sector – that can withhold their labor in order to halt the continued slaughter of the people of Palestine are emphatically called to do so!” Read and sign the declaration here.
Exposing the Deep Environmental Crisis | In the weeks leading up to World Environment Day, June 5, floods and the global state of emergency are exposing the profound environmental crisis humanity is facing. The floods that have been ravaging Kenya since March have caused at least 289 deaths, left nearly 293,000 people homeless, and destroyed about 10,000 hectares of crops. The neighboring country, Tanzania, is also suffering from the rains caused by Cyclone Hidaya, which destroyed much infrastructure and a large portion of crops in the southern and central regions. Although the increase in flooding is a consequence of the severe environmental crisis affecting the planet, Kenyans believe that the situation has worsened due to the lack of investment by the national government. In response, many have taken to the streets to protest and criticize the government, leading to the arrest of 26 activists. The demand for their release is on the agenda of political parties and social movements in Kenya. A scenario of destruction and death also affects other regions, such as Brazil, where in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul, more than 2.2 million people have been affected, over 530,000 had to leave their homes, and at least 160 lost their lives. The Landless Workers’ Movement (MST), which has large organic rice crops in that region, was also affected by the rains, with hundreds of landless families losing their production, homes, and other belongings. To show solidarity and help the MST families, a donation campaign was created, and you can access and donate here.
For the Liberation of Africa | May 25 marks African Liberation Day, commemorating the 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in the context of struggles against colonialism and for Pan-African unity. The OAU objective was to support liberation movements in the remaining African colonies and to lead the construction of a new African society free from exploitation. At the OAU’s inaugural meeting, Kwame Nkrumah, the revolutionary Pan-African leader and president and prime minister of independent Ghana, declared: “There is no time to waste. We must unite now or perish.” Every year on this day, the struggle of the African people for emancipation, against economic exploitation, oppression, colonialism, capitalism, and imperialism in various parts of the world is celebrated.
IPA Youth Meeting | From April 18 to 21, 2024, the anti-imperialist youth of the International Peoples’ Assembly met in Caracas, Venezuela, to develop a common analysis of the current moment and to determine a shared agenda of struggles and actions. At this meeting, young people from the Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Arab-Maghreb region published a statement demonstrating their “unyielding commitment to defeat our one common enemy, US imperialism, and to advance socialism throughout the world.” Read the full statement here.
ALBA Movements and the World Gathering for a Social Alternative | In April, representatives of the IPA and ALBA Movements participated in a series of meetings in Venezuela focused on building alternative projects for humanity and strengthening our processes. More than 100 members of popular movements from over 20 countries attended the meeting of the Continental Coordination of ALBA Movements, where they discussed and planned their work and actions for the upcoming period. Additionally, from April 18 to 20 in Caracas, hundreds of representatives from organizations and governments from 60 countries around the world attended the World Gathering for a Social Alternative, organized by the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).
