Against Israeli Occupation and War on Lebanon

The International Peoples’ Assembly stands in solidarity with the people of Lebanon and against the US-Israeli war on Lebanon.

Since October 7th, 2023 Lebanon has faced intense attacks from Israel as part of the genocidal campaign to maintain and expand the Israeli occupation. These attacks have escalated and now include the bombing of Beirut and various cities in southern Lebanon which took place on September 23rd 2024 and resulted in the death and injury of hundreds of civilians. Children, women, and health workers were killed, consistent with the policy of unrestrained aggression of Israel against Palestinian people and other communities in the region.

Israel’s attacks on Lebanon are directly related to the support and solidarity that the Palestinian resistance have received from the Lebanese people, as well as the need to secure the occupation of the Golan Heights by Israel.

Although the Israeli occupation is responsible for the continued escalation and expansion of the war, the United States has backed these actions, justifying them as appropriate responses. Statements by US National Security Adviser John Sullivan, which blame Hezbollah for the escalating tensions, demonstrate the steadfast and unwavering support of the US for the Israeli genocide.

Escalating tensions against Lebanon also include the recent explosion of pagers and radios which resulted in the death and injury to hundreds of innocent civilians. Lebanon’s representative to the Security Council expressed that “the explosions that killed dozens across Lebanon over the course of two days are unprecedented in their brutality and terrorism, and targeting thousands of people of all ages going about their business in their homes, on the street, at their jobs and in shopping malls is simply terrorism.”

The International Peoples’ Assembly stands with the Lebanese people and against the genocidal Israeli occupation. We condemn the Zionist aggression and the US support for it which enables the continuation of the war. We call for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the occupation of Palestine, understanding this to be the foundation for peace in the region. We denounce the targeting of medical personnel in Lebanon and all efforts to destroy the country’s health system. We call on peoples’ organizations around the world to mobilize on the streets and through communication platforms to stop the Zionist war and occupation of Palestine and Lebanon.
