Revolutionary greetings from the Pan Africanism Today Secretariat,
As we approach the second anniversary of the formation of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) on 16 September 2025, we invite your organisation to join the international effort to support the peoples of the AES in their bold confrontation with imperialism.
Over the past few years, the peoples of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger have waged struggles to break free from the stranglehold of neocolonial domination, forging a new Pan African path toward self-determination, popular sovereignty, and regional unity under the banner of the AES.
This historic and courageous realignment in the Sahel has not gone unnoticed by imperialist forces. The West, backed by its local collaborators, including the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), continues to develop schemes to destabilise and undermine the popular, patriotic forces leading this anti-imperialist transformation. The threats of sanctions, isolation, and military intervention are not only attacks on the AES governments, but they are attacks on the African people who have fought and continue to struggle to determine their own future.
The formation and consolidation of the AES represents a new chapter in a long history of African resistance. It is an expression of the deep, growing desire for liberation, economic independence, and the reassertion of dignity on the African continent. It is a break with the old order and a rallying cry for all revolutionary and progressive forces across Africa and the diaspora to join.
We must rise in unity and defend this process.
The Pan Africanism Today Secretariat, coordinating over 70 movements and organisations across Africa, calls on all progressive organisations throughout Africa and the world to:
1. Publicly express solidarity with the AES and the peoples of Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger in the face of external threats in the form of organisational statements, declarations, speeches, and more. Amplify the political importance of the AES as a bold step toward a truly independent and united Africa, and expose the role of imperialist powers and ECOWAS in attempting to sabotage the will of the people.
2. Mobilise for Coordinated Solidarity Actions on 16 September 2025: Encourage organisations and movements to plan and participate in a coordinated wave of political actions, mass mobilisations, and public demonstrations across different locations on 16 September 2025, to commemorate the second anniversary of the Alliance of Sahel States aka African Emancipation Struggle (AES). Call for the organisation of street protests, marches, rallies, and pickets in public spaces to make the AES visible and to challenge forces of imperialism, capitalism, and neo-colonialism. These should be used as moments of collective power, highlighting the demands and aspirations of the AES. These actions should visibly express solidarity and deepen public consciousness about the AES and its significance.
3. Host Political Education Events such as Teach-Ins and Forums: Support the hosting of teach-ins, panel discussions, community forums, and educational workshops that critically engage with the AES, its history, its demands, and its relevance to ongoing struggles on the continent and globally. These events can serve to build deeper political understanding and commitment among activists and the broader public.
4. Promote Artistic and Cultural Expressions of Resistance: Encourage artists, musicians, performers, and cultural workers to create and share works that amplifies the political line of the AES—project the AES flag, create murals, art and photo exhibitions, songs, poems, concerts, spoken word events, theater pieces, and more. These artistic interventions can help communicate the vision of emancipation in powerful, accessible ways.
5. Create Moments of Agitation and Disruption: Call for bold and imaginative actions that disrupt the normal flow of business and politics as usual—flash mobs, banner drops, coordinated social media campaigns, symbolic occupations, or other disruptive actions that draw attention to the ongoing struggle and the urgency of emancipation.
6. To integrate solidarity with the AES into existing actions, such as general assemblies, meetings, protests, and education.
Let us use this moment to consolidate and escalate our collective power, building solidarity from the streets of Accra to the markets of Bamako, from the universities of Dakar to the townships of Johannesburg. The future of Africa will not be decided in Washington, Paris, or Brussels but in the struggles of the African people themselves.
We encourage you to share your solidarity actions with us at this email address: [email protected]
AES is the people’s voice!
Hands off the Sahel!
Down with neocolonialism!
Forward to a liberated and united Africa!
In struggle,
Pan Africanism Today Secretariat
