Release of All Moroccan Political Prisoners and End State Repression Immediately
Issued by the International Peoples’ Assembly and undersigned organizations
In the last two weeks, Morocco has witnessed an unprecedented escalation in popular protests led by “Generation Z212” which includes youth and grassroots, denouncing the deterioration of health, education and living conditions. The young protestors have rejected systematic corruption and called for freedom, dignity and social justice.
The protests were met with rising repression, random detentions and violence by security forces, further inflaming the situation and causing the demonstrations to spread with greater intensity.
The protesters have rightfully denounced the authorities’ inability to set priorities. At a time when budgets are desperately needed for citizens’ health, education, and employment, billions have been squandered on organizing sporting events such as the World Cup, accompanied by land expropriations that displaced families and budgets diverted to secondary matters.
Eventually, the arbitrary and mass arrests, excessive violence, and deliberate lack of communication have indicated that the Moroccan authorities have no genuine solution to the current crisis, relying instead on state violence in the vain hope that the protests will subside.
We denounce the use of force, violence, and suppression of Civil Liberties
We, the International Peoples’ Assembly and all undersigned organizations, categorically denounce the Moroccan regime’s use of state violence, intimidation, and systematic suppression of fundamental civil liberties against its own people. The deployment of security forces to brutalize peaceful protesters, the wave of arbitrary detentions targeting activists, students, movements and the deliberate silencing of dissent through fear and repression represent grave violations of human rights and international law.
Rather than addressing the urgent needs of its citizens, the regime has chosen the path of authoritarian repression, treating its own people as enemies to be crushed rather than citizens whose voices must be heard.
We denounce:
The arbitrary detention of over hundreds activists, students, and ordinary citizens exercising their fundamental right to protest
The use of excessive force and violence against peaceful demonstrators
The systematic restriction of freedom of assembly, expression, and association
The intimidation and persecution of union organizers and political activists
The denial of due process and fair treatment to detained protesters
The climate of fear created to silence opposition and stifle democratic participation
We demand:
The immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners and detained protesters
An end to all forms of state violence, repression, trials and intimidation against peaceful demonstrators
Respect for fundamental civil liberties, including freedom of assembly, expression, and association
An end to the persecution of union organizers, political activists, and student movements
The struggle of the Moroccan people is the struggle of all oppressed peoples worldwide fighting for justice, dignity, and the right to determine their own futures.
The Moroccan people are not alone. Their fight is our fight. We will not be silent in the face of repression.
FREE ALL MOROCCAN POLITICAL PRISONERS!
