Unconditional Solidarity with Our Revolutions
To the political leaders of Cuba and Venezuela
We, the popular movements and political organizations of the continent gathered in ALBA Movimientos, wish to express our solidarity and commitment to the resistance of the Cuban and Venezuelan peoples. We defend the Cuban Revolution and the Bolivarian Revolution because they are the first line of defense against U.S. imperialism, which is attempting by every means to reduce our region to a mere colony from which to extract resources and to exploit our peoples.
The Cuban Revolution in the middle of the last century and later, the Bolivarian Revolution at the beginning of this century illuminated our paths toward self-determination, sovereignty, and independence, which have strengthened the struggles for emancipation in each of our countries. Our organizations have drawn strength from these experiences and from the lessons of your courageous peoples. In our recent history, both revolutions, with close ties and coordination, led the most advanced integration process in our history as nations, creating mechanisms such as ALBA/TCP, UNASUR, CELAC, Petro Caribe, and others.
Today we face a hybrid war that manifests itself in a combined and simultaneous manner on economic, military, judicial and territorial fronts, and, as Fidel warned us, in the realm of ideas. A cognitive war that lies at the heart of the empire’s strategies of domination. One of the main narratives they are attempting to promote—including Donald Trump himself —is that the Bolivarian Revolution has fallen and that the bonds that have historically united the peoples of Cuba and Venezuela have been severed. Unfortunately, this strategy has taken root even within our own ranks, which is deeply concerning to us all.
Our organizations and popular movements reaffirm our commitment to the peoples of Venezuela and Cuba and their revolutions. We will not fall into the trap which serves interests antithetical to our peoples and our history of struggle. We are grateful for the resistance that the peoples of both countries continue to maintain to this day, and we stand ready to provide whatever is needed. We remain steadfast in the knowledge that the future is ours.
