The Struggle for Sovereignty in Lebanon & Palestine: Resisting the Architecture of Occupation

July 12, 2006 is a date etched into the collective memory of Lebanon and the region as a symbol of defiance against overwhelming military might. As we commemorate this date 20 years on, we find ourselves at a new, precarious inflection point. The trilateral framework agreement signed on June 26, 2026, is being presented as a blueprint for ‘sovereignty’ and ‘stability.’ However the realities on the ground, from the militarized fragmentation of the Gaza Strip to the systematic annexation of the West Bank, make it clear that this framework is not a path to peace, but a sophisticated mechanism of containment. The struggle in Lebanon and the struggle in Palestine are two sides of the same coin. They are linked not only by shared geography but by a shared objective of the U.S.-Israeli alliance: the systematic dismantling of indigenous sovereignty and the criminalization of resistance.
