Solidarity with Comrade Hamma Hammami

The International Peoples’ Assembly expresses its steadfast solidarity with Comrade Hamma Hammami, Secretary-General of the Tunisian Workers’ Party, who is facing open and explicit death threats.
In mid-July 2026, a video circulated widely on social media in which a man repeatedly demanded the execution of Hamma Hammami and declared himself ready to kill him with his own hands. The same clip also directed insults and death threats at a number of other political figures and lawyers. These statements constitute open and direct calls to murder, whose circulation reflects a deliberate intent to intimidate and silence the democratic and left opposition in Tunisia.
Comrade Hamma Hammami is one of the enduring symbols of the popular struggle in Tunisia — a leftist leader, a fighter faithful to his principles. From the student uprising of February 1972 through years of clandestinity, imprisonment, and torture, he has never abandoned the cause of democratic freedoms and the struggle for Socialism. The threats targeting him today are but a new attempt to silence a voice that has stood firm against every regime that sought to break it — an attempt that will fail like those before it.
Accordingly, we demand that his safety and the safety of all those targeted be guaranteed, that an independent investigation be opened without delay, and that those who incite violence be held to account. An attack on one activist of the people’s movements is an attack on all of us.
We embrace Hamma Hammami, his family, and his comrades with the full solidarity of the world’s popular movements.
