Statement of solidarity and condolences on the devastating floods in Nepal and border regions

The International Peoples’ Assembly (Asia) extends its deep condolences, collective grief, and firm support to the people of Nepal and all affected communities following the catastrophic flash floods and mudslides along the Himalayan border regions. Entire villages have been submerged, vital transport and energy infrastructure destroyed, and hundreds of precious lives lost or left unaccounted for.
This severe crisis highlights how extreme weather, accelerating glacial melting, and transboundary environmental hazards threaten mountain habitats. Climate change is increasingly driving unpredictable extreme events, turning shared river corridors into conduits of sudden catastrophe and compounding risk for vulnerable frontline populations.
The International Peoples’ Assembly understands how a disaster of this scale transcends national boundaries, inflicting sorrow upon working families across borders:
- Solidarity with the People of Nepal: We stand firmly with the hardworking people of Nepal, the rural villagers, agricultural workers, and urban communities who bear the immediate impact of washed-out homes, severed bridges, and destroyed livelihoods.
- Sympathy for Losses in Xizang’s (Tibet) Gyirong County: We extend our condolences to the families and communities in Xizang’s (Tibet) Gyirong County on the Chinese side of the Nepal-China border, where severe mudslides have caused casualties, widespread destruction, and left many missing.
- Grief for Missing Indian Citizens and Pilgrims: We share in the deep anxiety of families in India and abroad awaiting news of Indian citizens and Kailash Mansarovar Yatra pilgrims who remain missing or stranded along damaged border routes and cut communication lines.
- Tribute to Essential Workers and Rescue Teams: We salute the heroic efforts of essential workers, search-and-rescue personnel, medical staff, and local volunteers who are risking their lives in dangerous terrain to clear debris and save lives.
The International Peoples’ Assembly (Asia) calls for swift, coordinated regional cooperation and humanitarian relief across borders to prioritize rescue operations, restore essential links, and deliver long-term support to affected communities.
