The International Peoples\u2019 Assembly (IPA) Asia has released Hands Off Asia: A People\u2019s Call for Sovereignty and Solidarity<\/em>, the book that gathers the discussions and debates of the Hands Off Asia conference held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, from 16\u201318 July 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three-day gathering brought together delegates from 17 countries and 46 organizations, including political parties, trade unions, peasant and women\u2019s movements, student organizations, publishers, and research institutes from across Asia, alongside guests from Cuba and Brazil. The volume brings together 33 speeches from the conference, the Colombo Declaration adopted on its final day, and the lyrics of the Hands Off Asia anthem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Across its nine chapters, contributors examine the interconnected forms through which imperialism operates in Asia today: expanding US military bases and alliances; political interference and destabilization; debt, sanctions, tariffs, and technological blockades; the rise of the far right; ideological and cultural domination; and the struggle to build sovereign and socialist alternatives. The book includes contributions from political leaders, movement organizers, trade unionists, scholars, cultural workers, and activists from across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The publication forms part of the broader Hands Off Asia campaign, launched by the International Peoples\u2019 Assembly to build a united front against US militarization and the New Cold War in Asia. The campaign calls for the removal of US, NATO, and other foreign military bases from the continent, an end to aggressive military pacts such as AUKUS and the Quad, respect for the sovereignty of Asian nations, and the redirection of resources from militarization toward people\u2019s needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Colombo conference expanded this struggle beyond militarization alone. Its declaration links the fight against foreign bases and war to struggles against debt bondage, IMF conditionalities, tariff coercion, regime change, far-right proxies, and the colonization of Asia\u2019s histories, media, and political imagination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the book argues, the challenge is not simply to resist individual acts of intervention, but to build the organized power and solidarity necessary for the peoples of Asia to determine their own political, economic, social, and cultural futures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
